北京怀柔一处 L 形传统院落的改造，距市中心约一个半小时车程。

工作先在一个个局部展开，之后才回到整体，每个局部都为下一个定下条件。一个从旧瓷砖填充处取得的尺寸，定出一道花岗岩墙，向上成为卧室不锈钢面上的开缝，再延续为厨房的一段搁板与其下逐渐收紧的灯距。并没有一个先于这些局部的方案。房子的整体性，来自各部分之间的传递所留下的东西。

房子是远距离绘制、快速建造的，意图与实施并不总能对齐。在未能对齐之处，差别被赋予形式，而非被修正。/ The renovation of an L-shaped courtyard house in Huairou, about an hour and a half drive from central Beijing.

The house was worked on in segments before it was worked on as a whole, and each segment set the terms of the next. A dimension taken from an old ceramic infill sets out a granite wall, rises into the bedroom above as a slit in steel, then continues into the kitchen as a shelf with a run of lights tightening beneath it. No plan precedes these parts. The coherence of the house is what the transfers between them left behind.

It was drawn at a distance and built quickly, and intention and execution did not always meet. Where they did not, the difference was given a form rather than corrected.
